I searched but I guess my keywords aren't that great because I only found one thread that said "99% a sp"
I have an AMEX BCE - I would be looking for an AMEX with BT offer, probably everyday, --- is it still a SP if it is declined?
I wouldn't recommend doing a balance transfers on any Am Ex card. M/C Visa or Discover only. Am Ex doesn't like people to spread out a balance over 12 months.
I think I've read that but my options are limited and it would not be a large amount.Perhaps $800.
I have too many acconts for chase and probably barclay, especially since I just chopped barclay rewards
Prequal not working for citi because I think I'm opted out after a freeze. (freeze and fraud alert removed)
I don't know who else and at least, I'm hoping, a denial would be a SP from them since I already have a BCE?

If you have a fraud alert then you'd be opted out of all not just CITI and you'd have to opt back in yourself which took me a good 4-5 months. 99% of the time if you are declined it's a SP and a HP on approval. There have been some HP on declines though.
If amex doesnt like BT's then why do they offer it? For show?

When I got my BCE, I did a balance tranfer with them and paid it off after 3 months. (didn't know at the time it was supposed to be a bad thing). While, it hasn't so far led to any adverse action, I have to wonder if it has affected my ability to get CLIs with them. I've tried twice and been denied. Hope by January my EX score will be above 700, and maybe they will consider me for an increase. Since I have been rebuilding for about 15 months and didn't have a credit history except for auto loans, that might factor in their denial. Guess we will see. Good luck.

Yes. if you are current member and denied. it would be SP. i have tested this time and time again. i already have 2 amex cards. But i wanted the simply cash. Denied. reason. time of being amex cardholder. 1 year. then i tried the ED. Same reason. Time of being Amex card holder.
I guess they only want me to have 2 cards. But they were both Sp denials. also at the same time they raised my Delta limit to 20k. So go figure.

Of course people just make general statements without any idea.
of course they would not be against a BT on a true BT card.
This is like others telling me before amex does not like you to carry a balance.
Which is total malarkey. They are a financial bank and ive never had a issue with Amex and carrying balances.
In fact i went from 3500-10500 -20k on my Delta and ive always had a balance. never a 0 balance. So always take statements like that with a grain of salt. I even BTed a balance from Amex to another card once. They had no issue what so ever. Never to their card as ive not had the option to do so plus their interest is high. Currently 15.24% on my Delta.

Seems like you answered your own question. IMHO, your overall profile is contributing moreso than a BT. But I'm also not getting AMEX LUV, as I probably don't have sufficient income for them to extend much more credit to me.

This does seem to be nearly always the case, but a few people who are members have posted HP denials here.
Also, as with backdating, this is something never "officially" stated by Amex, and so is subject to change at any time.
