Late payment question

I totally screwed up and got the due date wrong for my Walmart card. I only use the card a couple of times a year and usually pay before the statement posts. Anyway, this time I messed up. I just went online to pay it and discovered that it was due on the 14th. They've already assessed a $25 late fee. I am less concerened about the late fee as I am about my credit report. Currenlty my CR is clean.

What I want to know is if it was due on the 14th and I pay it tomorrow, the 20th, does that get reported as a late payment on my CR?

Thanks!

Re: Late payment question

No, it won't be reported to the credit bureaus.  You would have to be 30-days late in order for them to report it.

Re: Late payment question

Forgot to add that you should give them a call and see if they will waive that late fee.  A lot of companies will waive a late fee....once anyway.  Good luck!  Smiley Happy

I'd call in, see if they can waive the late as a one-time courtesy

Re: Late payment question

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I am going to call tomorrow about waiving the fee since I've never been late before. However, I was most concerned about the credit reporting, especially since the reporting date is the 20th or 21st. So, there is no feasible way for me to get the payment posted before the next statement cuts. (WM notoriously takes 5 to 7 days for their payments to be recorded, even when you pay cash in the store.)

I am never using my WM card again. I only used it to keep it active in the hopes of getting upgraded to Discover, and now all this! Ugh! Smiley Sad

Re: Late payment question

30 days late means that you are 30 days late from the due date making a payment.  You are not that late, only a few days, so you are fine with reporting.  However, internally it may stifle you from CLI for a little while.  But relax, you're okay!

Secondly, and I'm sure you already know this, no matter how much we try to remember it is bound to happen that you forget to pay.  For that reason and that reason only is why I have ALL of my accounts set for autopay of the minimum amount.  I've worked too hard and diligently to mess up at this point since I know that my mind isn't what it used to be....I've got CRS real bad Smiley LOL

But seriously, don't fret about this because they can't report 30 if you're not thirty, if anything you are 5....Cheer up!
