Got approved for the Arrival on 7/14 but not the WMC version (Platinum, $4000 CL). At the advice of several members here, I called them on 7/15 to find out if it was possible to get the line up to $5k for the WMC version. The analyst was very nice but said no since my credit history is quite young (oldest tradeline is only a year and a half old). It wasn't a hard pull, just a soft pull.
I got a letter today from them that says "We are unable to grant your request for a credit line increase to your account for the following reason(s):
-High amount of credit available from other accounts"
Double checked my Experian report to verify it was just a SP (it was). My income is between $40k and $45k and my credit lines totaled $26,350 before adding Barclays. I feel weirdly proud that they acknowledge the amount of credit available to me with such a short credit history
And...they told me my Experian FICO is 739! Was pleasantly surprised by that since that report has the bulk of my inqs (7 as compared to 5 on TU and 3 on EQ, although each of those has one dropping off next month, woohoo!)
Also, it's been 8 days since approval and still no sign of my card...
Congrats on your approval! Wait the 6 months to request a CLI. Barclay likes to see usage on their accounts, but they are bit strange because they are notorious to CLD on their card members.
Thanks! It doesn't sound like it'll be much of a grower, but I mainly got it because it has no foreign transaction fees, and $4k will certainly cover any international vacation travel I do.
Congrats! Hmm.. I don't have any card from Barclays. Perhaps I should look into getting one!

Hey isoldmyatlas!
Actually, if you take care of Barclays and use the card... they will grow that card very well for you. Being that you are so new to credit and have already garnered a 4K card from them, I think you are well on your way to 5 digit limits with them in time. Congrats on your approval. Many have been denied for this card.

Thanks for the advice... I think I`ll avoid this bank as well in the coming years as I replace C-1 and my scores improve over the next 18 months

Even if I don't do balance transfers or carry a balance? I don't do either and they seem to mainly care about that.
WTG
Congrats

I have 2 barclay cards. I never carry a balance and always pay in full. There is a lot of bashing of Barclays because of their business model but it works for them. If you app a bunch of cards and have a thin file / was barely approved and had to recon for approval / run up a high utility on most of your new accounts, then of course they are going to take AA. They give a lot of people a second chance and what one does with it.... well, as you can see- some are successful with them and others poke the tiger. Use their cards, let them make some money off your swipe fees and they will love you. Their limits go pretty high based on your credit worthiness and income.
congrats on the approval and the score bump!
