Right --neither you nor any family members have to have connections to the military or be a federal employee or contractor. You just go via the National Military Families Association, which is kind of a support group, I suppose. And you only have to join them initially; you don't have to keep going with them.

Oh I just read the "fine print" and it does look like you don't actually need to have family in the armed forces. In that case this might work out
Thanks for the advice all.
One more question though!
Is it worthwhile to get a Charge Card to have that in my "mix of types of credit"? As far as I know the only one out there is AMEX and I kind of dread getting an AMEX after everything I've read about how unpredictable they are. What other options are there?
My Sears card also reports as a Charge Card... but I was under the impression that a Store card isn't quite the same as an AMEX charge card when it comes to the mix of types of credit.
Types of Credit Used

Just as an aside, Kohl's still call their store card a charge card.
