Looking to APP SPREE.... thoughts

Many moons ago a destroyed my credit. I decided to wait 7 years for the majority of info to fall of my credit and use cash. But something happened last year, I proposed to my girlfriend. Now i am getting my S@$! together and am asking the community for more help, as I would like to purchase a house and get some roots going in the next 3 years. I started to rebuild last year with a car loan (needed co-signer) and sub-prime credit cards, withe these scores:

TU:530, EX:519, EQ:514

Now it has been a just over a year and my score are:

TU:664, EX:665, EQ:652

(hope to hit 670 by app spree next month)

My current Cards are:  (used/credit line)

                                    Kay - $980 / $3535

                          Firestone - $100 / $1200

            Barclay Rewards - $380 / $1330

                          1'st Prem - $0 / $300

                       Credit One - $140 / $500

                                Cap 1 - $60 / $300

that is right under 24% utilization. I would like to add a few more lines to my credit file and hope you guys/gals can give some insight. The cards I am looking to app are:

1) Care Credit (puppy bills)

2) Barclay US air (or should I go for arrival)

3) Chase Freedom / Slate

4) Cap 1 QS

Oldest Account: 1yr

AAoA: 8 months

I still have 1 collections from 2011 on EQ and EX

I still have 1 negative public record on TU and EX

100% on time payments on all accounts

INQ's;  EQ: 2, TU: now 6 with barclay cli, EX: 5

Any and all insight / thoughts / criticism is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Divorce crushed my credit from the high 700's to the low 500's... working on it now

Congrats on rebuilding your credit and getting engaged! Smiley Happy

You may be able to get the QS1 card, but I think Chase may be pushing it a bit.

I read they don't like scores below 670ish with any baddies.

Barclay is new account and inq sensitive. Hope this helps.

Be prepared for "too many accounts with balances" denials.

$0 balance on your CC and a $1 balance on your CC are two totally different things. It will affect your score.

should I pay off 2-3 of my cards so i have 3-4 cards reporting a zero balance?

Re: Looking to APP SPREE.... thoughts

Optimum is 1 card reporting a less than 10% balance with everything else reporting $0.

Me personally I have 9 cards... 7 reporting $0 and I'm carrying a 0% promotional balance on the other 2.

I tested this over the last 6 months paying off 1 card per month and letting it report... Each $0 balance card was worth a 2-4 point FICO gain. Some had been reporting $10 balances and I got the increase when it went to $0.

$10 balance seems trivial but in the eyes of FICO it isn't near as pretty as $0.

Re: Looking to APP SPREE.... thoughts

YES, pay as many of them to $0 as you can... you will see a better score bump for less cards reporting $0 than having all accounts reporting under 20%
