A few points. I has to spend a little more money on clothing for the winter and was able to upgrade to silver to enjoy these benefits:

Also it seems every month I get a new deal pushing me to use the Gap Visa outside the brands. Last month I got $25 in rewards for using my Visa 5 times outside of the brand. The new offering this month is from November 1st through December 31st everytime you use your Visa (outside the brands) you will get 200 bonus points--no caps. That means for every 5 swipes $10 in reward. Yes I'll be swiping away!! As it stands, I currently have $225 reward dollards on my account by taking advantage of these promos and using my Visa and also by shopping!! I've save so much. The Gap card gets such bad reviews, but I feel like I do well with this card!!

I wonder if Old Navy will have some similar incentives. I swiped a few times to get a $20 reward. After I pay that card off, I don't know what I'll do with it because I'm cutting down my shopping.

once you get silver (which online it says i do), how long does it take to get the new card?
and damn, i wish i got the swipe it get $2. i would've went to the liquor store and swiped like 40 packs of gum separately.
edit:
and i love this card because i shop a lot at banana republic. standard 5% bonus but it also gives cardmember only special discounts which are often stackable with whatever current specials they have online (i've stacked 40% plus another 30% multiple times). so if you purchase lots of clothing, it's worth it imho.

This is from the Gap website:
Upgrades to Silver level will be processed within 90 to 120 days after you qualify. Once you receive your upgraded card, you will receive additional Gap Silver cardmember benefits.
I wish it wouldn't take so long. It would be nice to have before Christmas. Free shipping would save me a bunch!

You know I'm not sure about Old Navy, but Gap is always sending these offers. Not sure if they are targeted and I'm the only one getting them or if everyone with a Gap Visa is getting them?? Here is what I just got--awesome deal BTW:
