Macy's Card Upgrade

Did any one successfully got their Macy's Store card upgraded to Macy's Visa? If so what did it take for you to get it done? I tried last year got declined with a hard inq on EX. I am wondering if any of you had success in getting your store card upgraded to macy's visa card.

Re: Macy's Card Upgrade

Hi Concord

I might be 100% incorrect on this however, i think i have read here that the macy store card does not upgrade to a visa. It is a new tradeline on your report. You will have to apply for the card and it will be a hard inq. It is just like applying for another credit card.

I know macy's has levels that will upgrade (depending on how much you spend)  their store card but to a visa, it is entirely something different.

Anyone else know of this?

I am sure i have read this a couple of times.

Re: Macy's Card Upgrade

Back in October or November of last year, Macys sent me a pre-approval thing in the mail for their VISA. CSR told me it would be separate from my regular Macys store account - a new account. They offered a 12.5k line.

I declined.

Re: Macy's Card Upgrade

yes Oracles you are right, the Macy's Visa is a 2nd tradeline from the Store Card and if you go back later and try to get it, it will be a new credit pull and approval or denial.

Re: Macy's Card Upgrade

Macys store card is provided by Department Store National Bank.

Macys Visa is provided by HSBC.

They are separate lines of credit and show separately on your CR.

There is no such thing as an upgrade to a Macys Visa card from the store card.

Macy's visa is part of Citi I believe, not HSBC

Info on Macy's website makes no mention of HSBC but does mention Citigroup.

Re: Macy's Card Upgrade

DSNB (Department Stores National Bank), which issues Macy's Visa, is a subsidiary of Citigroup.

In November, I app'd while shopping at my local Macy's to get a 15% discount on my purchases. I was approved & received a store card a few weeks later. Then a Macy's Visa card with a $10K limit showed up in my mail in mid-January. I did not apply separately for this card, although it's possible that my November app covered both cards.
