Macy's Payment Freeze

I paid in store by check (1st mistake)
2nd mistake, I paid the balance = $1165.45 (to big of payment)
They are now holding the payment for 14 days.

so then went back and made a 2nd payment for $600 by debit card so I could charge today, and they allowed WITH authorizations me to charge to the $600 then cut me off again.

I guess this is becoming norm these days in this market for payments to get held long time.

Love the card and really no complaints in end, was just hoping to do more purchasing today!

Re: Macy's Payment Freeze

That sucks! Thanks for the FYI!

We are hoping to get in on the men's suit event on October 1st. This way I can take advantage of the sale and free alterations for my dude.

I better keep an eye on the payment thingy!

Re: Macy's Payment Freeze

it really came down to poor planning on my part. I knew that i was going to pay it off, I should have had my other debit card with me or had gotten cash to pay it off instead of check.
I mean GE holds my payments that are wire transfered to them!! lol
atleast a check makes since to hold.

Re: Macy's Payment Freeze

Capitol One is holding my online payment of $305.43 for 10 days. I've already posted two other $70ish payments since. I guess they are leary of big payments, but I'm sure they have the cash at this point, as it cleared my bank account over a week ago. Anyway, from now on, I'll make under $100.00 payments to avoid the hassle.

Re: Macy's Payment Freeze

why would they consider your payment too big?  i've pifed my cap1 for 400+ w/o protracted delay in posting to my acct.

Re: Macy's Payment Freeze

it just all depends on how long you have had your account and what the computer deems risky at one time or another. payment holds for 5-15 days is becoming more norm on newer accounts or accounts being paid completely off.
GE is very big about payment holds even on my not so new account (9 months)

Re: Macy's Payment Freeze

I think a few stores are taking bigger precautions now.  I pay mine all with billpay through my bank and it's been fine.

How do they expect us to spend if the account is locked Smiley MadSmiley Mad

Re: Macy's Payment Freeze

Capitol One emailed a response to my question about the hold on the $350:

"After reviewing your account, it appears that a temporary hold in the
amount of $305.53 has been placed on your available credit due to
account being new or less than 6 months old.

To ensure your payment will clear, we may wait 6-10 calendar days before
allowing any additional charges (up to the payment amount) if any of the
following occur:

• returned payment(s) in the last 6 months
• recent authorizations declined due to exceeding the credit limit
• account is delinquent
• account is new or less than 6 months old
• payment is made by phone"

They didn't hold any of the smaller payments I made, no idea why they held the bigger one, all come from the same bank account.
