Macy's furniture approval...so I thought

Hello all

Yesterday I was extremely happy to report that I was approved for a $2300 furniture credit lne with Macy's in the store. I picked out the sectional that I wanted, but the sales lady told me to come back today becuase it owuld be on sale. I went back on my lunch break today and decided to add an ottoman which brought my purchase up to $2700. The salesman said that it would dprobably go through... Denied.. I spoke with the CS rep and he asked me some security questions and said I was not approved for $2700 and that I was only approved for $2300. So I then decided to remove the ottman from my purchase which brought the total to $2369.45. I decided to run it through again...DEnied..we called the credit department and was told that my account was transferred to consumer protection department and I will get a phone call in 2 days and something in the mail to fill out. Then I decided to pay the $69.45 out of pocket and charge the rest, which was under $2300...DENIED again.. I called and spoke with a manager and she said I was completely denied becuase I was a risk...It didnt stop there..I called back twice and spoke with 2 other reps and they said that Macy;s needs to verify information before opening the account. Does anyone know what this means? Has this ever happened to anyone? Was I comoletely denied??? What is the consumer protection department? HELP!!!!!!! I really want the furniture!

Sounds like they need to verify your identity.

I'm lost as to why you would try to purchase over your limit twice? This action is probably what flagged you.

You are right. I should not have tried it.. Do you know what happens if they flag you?

Apparently, what happens is that they call you in two days & mail a form out to you.   There's really not much you can do, other than wait out the process.   As for the salespeople, they're not credit experts, so I would advise you to stick your guns next time regarding your CL.   I'm guessing two attempts to charge over limit locked the account.   Perhaps you should have called to request a CLI before the account was run, but what's done is done.

oh Macy's credit they are so fun sometimes... can't get much better then a person IN STORE with ID but this being macys it's to bad we couldn't have told you... DONT DO WHAT YOU DID! you can't push more through than the $2300 especially after they told you... it just triggered complete shut down of your account.

They will probably want you to send ID, bank statement, Util. bill, etc as multiple proofs of you and the address you are using.

you can use your store card up to its limit to purchase furnture also without the 0% interest for which ever part will not fit on the macy's furniture line.
