Macys credit limit decrease

I was recently at Macys trying to make a purchase and was informed my card was declined.  I have a perfect credit with them and with other creditors, but I do have high utilization.  My balance with them was $750 with a CL of $1K.  When I called about it they said that the CL is just a "guideline".  Any ideas on how to get my limit back?  Has anyone had any luck with a backdoor?

How big of a charge were you trying to make?

It was a $50 charge.  They'd just suddenly decided to decrease my limit.

Re: Macys credit limit decrease

Unfortunately Macy's changed thier practices this past summer and now instituted a bi annual review of thier cardholders credit. So based on whats on your report regardless of your payment history with them they can either increase, decrease or keep the same limit. I got nailed for a CLD of $100 just before back to school shopping and cannot even ask to have the account reviewed for 6 months after. Needless to say the card has been moth balled.

Re: Macys credit limit decrease

If you are ever late directly with Macy's you will receive an immediate GL cut. Macy's has always softed cardholders and reviewed accounts. Changes in credit status, late payments with both them and others, increased UTIL and other things they can pick up on your CBR's have and will lead to changes in your GL.
