Mailed preapprovals vs. online checks for preapprovals

Is there a difference between them? Should they be consistent? I receive preapprovals on a weekly basis for Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage. But their site says they cannot find preapprovals for me. I checked the exact name, address, and everything matches what I put on their site. Are these perhaps run off different independent systems?

Anybody see them through one mechanism but not the other?

yep..got this offer online but never by mail.

Pre-approvals are usually pretty arbitrary, and usually don't guarantee anything. I wouldn't count on either.

thanks but my question was not about the accuracy of preapprovals... i know how that part works.
