Mailer: United MileagePlus Explorer 50k Offer

Just received it in the mail.  The 50k offer for this card.  Since I'm not good with the 5/24, not sure if this is a trap.  I've also received the email offers from time to time.  It is from United Mileage Plus, not from Chase.

The offer expires by 1/31/2018.

I get these a lot too.  Emails once a month or so and the mailer once a year.  I read in the past either one doesn't bypass 5/24 so I haven't tried, but not positive as of today.
