I know for me personally any MC Ive applied for doesn't want a thing to do with me, not even places like Capital 1. But I have two Visa (State Farm and a Local Credit Union).
I can say as a manager at a restaurant, when I go over the financials Visa sales usually account for about 2/3rds of all credit transactions, with Mastercard taking about 20%, and usually AMEX with the remaining (Discover is very rare for some reason). So from my perspective business wise Visa isn't becoming a rare breed.
My Citi Forward and Wells Fargo Debit card are both Visa.
I manage a sports bar and have noticed pretty much the same thing. The only difference is that MC and Visa are lumped together on our batch reports, but I see the same approximately 85% between the two. As for the rest... maybe 12% Amex and 3% Discover.
On a side note my BOA Redskins debit card is MC.
i have held this belief that everyone should have a credit card of each of the 4 major netorworks.

I think Paypal/BillMeLater is becoming the 5th network.

Exactly! Why put all of your eggs in one basket?

I have all of those ... and I'm done!
Wow! How many of you know about JCB? I only see that sign at Japanese store here in CA.
JCB is very popular in Japan, but I never had it even before I came to US.

Last I looked, Wells Fargo does not. My credit union does not.
Currently, all of WF's debit AND credit cards are Visa's
Visa is going to remain the defacto brand and network for a while. They've got huge market share, and they aren't going anywhere any time soon.
