The rep did reply to my question with "Good news!" So this agent did know there was a restriction of how many accounts can be opened with them beforehand.
You might not meet enough of these conditions for the plan to make sense, but it's worth exploring...
1. If your Discover is past the 0% intro period, you might be able to request 0% on new purchases for a few months.
2. You may have a double-rewards promotion Discover - either with a new account, or being quick to jump on the promo with an old one.
3. You may be able to request a SP CLI on Discover.
That would give you 0% APR with 12% cash back.
Discover officially excludes Macbooks from the Discover Deals bonus, but I got the extra 5% anyway. Somewhat sadly, this was before the double-rewards promo came out, so I missed another $100 in rewards I could have gotten if I'd waited a month.
