More cards better or worse?

I understand there is no perfect # or right amount of cards. But would having a number of credit cards effect getting future credit? Cards, home loan, car loan, ect. Seeing them being a risk? Or being a plus because of good payment history.

Depends how old they are... Once older then I say no on getting in way for new credit
