I have a citi forward card with a 3500 limit and aa amex with 7k limit. Would citi let me move the forward limit to the aa card? I dont really have a need anymore for the forward card but dont want to give up the credit unless I can consolidate it with another citi card.
I was unsuccessful until I tried the executive office. I asked for an increase on two cards and realised I wanted a higher limit on the one I didn't increase that much. I tried through a supervisor and she sent it to the underwriters who came back with they can't increase the limit for another six months. I got to the executive office and said that I wasn't asking for an increase, just so shift limits. When she sent it off the underwriters did it and I was able to reallocate. They said a hard inquiriy would be done, but maybe since I just got the increases a few days before they didn't need to do another one.

I was simply told they don't combine lines at all.
When I planned to cancel my Citi AA Plat Select, they connected me to a retention specialist who said that if I close the card, I could transfer all but $5K of the limit. (They want to keep $5k "in case you decide to reopen the card" which I suspect makes no sense at all). So at least in some cases, they will let you transfer CL, but losing $5K, and probably only when you actually close a card, rather than redistributing between two open cards.
