Hope you didn't mind; now that Concorduser Center and Sleigh Center look like the reserve in
Jurassic Park and are completely overrun by former inmates, the HVT has to be free-ranging these days.
Don't forget: the average history and overall history on closed accounts will stay with you for another ten years, so closing those two today wouldn't hurt your history for another decade.
Pretty much the only benefit of a CC that you lose right away is its CL, which contributes to your overall util. But you're right, you're going to want to get a replacement for the CL's on those two, either through CLI's on the two good cards, or on a new one, before you close the two bare-bones cards.
As you're a firefighter, are you elible for any sort of local CU? They can be great resources for those improving their credit. Also, if you're in a union, you might see if you're eligible for the Union Plus card. It appears to be the only half-way decent card that HSBC offers. (Don't know about the Orchard/HSBC how-many-cards thing, though.) Peas has one and she loves it, and I keep getting offers in the mail, but I'm trying to simplify, not complexify!
