Smiley Happy Hope you didn't mind; now that Concorduser Center and Sleigh Center look like the reserve in Jurassic Park and are completely overrun by former inmates, the HVT has to be free-ranging these days.

Don't forget: the average history and overall history on closed accounts will stay with you for another ten years, so closing those two today wouldn't hurt your history for another decade.

Pretty much the only benefit of a CC that you lose right away is its CL, which contributes to your overall util. But you're right, you're going to want to get a replacement for the CL's on those two, either through CLI's on the two good cards, or on a new one, before you close the two bare-bones cards.

As you're a firefighter, are you elible for any sort of local CU? They can be great resources for those improving their credit. Also, if you're in a union, you might see if you're eligible for the Union Plus card. It appears to be the only half-way decent card that HSBC offers. (Don't know about the Orchard/HSBC how-many-cards thing, though.) Peas has one and she loves it, and I keep getting offers in the mail, but I'm trying to simplify, not complexify! Smiley Very Happy

Re: Must....resist...urge..

The IAFF has a card on their site, I think its the Union Plus, I have no idea but I'm scared to death to apply for it because I don't want the inquiry and I'm betting on a denial. My fire dept has a credit union that I am a part of but no credit cards. They are however very generous with loans but don't report. When I got hired, I joined and they consolidated all my collections into a loan along with my 24% interest rate car. They gave me a loan for 16000 at 11% with a 400 FICO. I've been very blessed by this. I'll look into other CU's around though that might not be a little broader than just my FD.

I agree on the Union Plus for now. Looks like once you break into the 620's or so, that might become an option.

Fantastic work on your scores in a year, btw!
