The Green or Gold charge will be used for traveling don't want a ton of cards

Green (and Gold, if it reopens to apps) aren't particularly suited for travel. I suggest looking around a bit more.

I see you had the Platinum in 2004 and got Delta Gold a week ago. A lot has changed over 13 years.

You seem pretty set on your plan, so I won't try to dissuade you beyond what I've said. Hope it works out.

Drboxing.. why would you want a charge card? There are pointless. You have to pay them off every month and the rewards are hardly worth the application. If you want another Amex go with the blue cash rewards. But my advice would be to go with the chase freedom. I prefer this over my discover card.

You dont pay interest. Who wants to pay a bank to buy stuff??

I have Citi-AA card, Discover-IT, Amex Delta Gold, the only card I want is Amex charge Green or Gold, once I obtain that, I'll call it quits

Assuming your CR is in good shape, it shouldnt be hard at all for you to get the PRG. If you have a history with Amex as well it will definatly help. No baddies, id say.

I had no history with AmEx when i apped for the PRG, applyed of the idea id get denied, but what the hell, give it a go. The inquiry will fall off in 2 years and i intended on not applying for anything for that time anyway. I got approved for the PRG 2 weeks after getting approved for the BCP.

Did you apply and get denied? Let me know. I like the card and probably won't travel with it too much, 1 2 trips a year....

Update us! ☺😉

By reestablishing yourself, do you mean building your credit up to be able to get the Platinum again?  My understanding is that because the charge cards all have no pre-set spending limit (but all can vary with your available assets, spending, and credit profile) the underwriting standards for the charge cards are the same.  If you want the Platinum card and the travel perks make sense for you, then give it a shot.  If you don't get approved for the Platinum, then it's highly unlikely that you would be approved for the green or gold.

The green and regular gold cards have no travel benefits that the other MR cards do not.  Every card (or at least personal cards) that earns MR points gets at least one MR point per dollar spent, and I believe they all give you 2x MR points on purchases through the Amex travel portal.  As a result, the green card literally offers the lowest number of MR points of any Amex MR card.  The regular gold card is not much better.

If you're thinking of the PRG card, you can get $100 out of the airline credit and boosted earning of points on each dollar you spend in the bonus category areas.  If you can handle the extra $100 out of pocket for the annual fee and you can get $100 of value out of the airline credit, then the green card literally offers no meaningful benefit to you over the PRG.

However, if what you want is to maximize points earning potential, then you should at least consider the EDP.  You can pay off your revolving cards every month, just like charge cards.  You will still earn at least 1 MR point on every dollar you spend.  But if you use the card 30 times in a month, then that minimum goes up to 1.5 MR points per dollar spent.  You also get boosted earning potential at grocery stores and gas stations, which are some of the same categories that the PRG has.  The PRG offers you more points on airfare and restaurants, but the EDP offers extra points at grocery stores and gas stations.  Only you know which bonus categories will make the most sense for you.

Re: My Credit Card Goal

I'm in the same boat.  I was approved for the Gold card yesterday, I didn't want to get Platinum for the sake of it being a platinum card and the Gold card has some good everyday purchase perks that the platinum doesn't, like 2x points for dining, gas, and groceries.  I'm not much of a traveler so I was fine with the Gold.

You got the Premier Rewards Gold, aka PRG. "Gold" refers to a different card...one currently closed to new apps.

PRG is generally considered a reasonably good value. It's the regular Gold that's lousy.
