i was at store trying to buy something that bang it say decline so i call citi tell me that they need to do verification on my account a soft pull. i don't understand why do they need to do verification ?

i had this card about 2 months and it has 0 balance and it has limited of 2000. last month i had bal of 1100 paid in full that about it,
