You and me both.  As it stands now, I have to rely on the GF good credit and her use of her own plat amex to fly my sorry around.

Yes but that's how you should do it. Don't use your debit card because if a thief steals your account info, they can drain your bank account. Use your credit cards instead.

Re: My debit card gets no more love

I received a new debit card in the mail from Bank of America today.

"We're replacing your debit card as a safety meaure to help ensure that your account information is protected. We receive information from outside companies and were recently notified that information from some debit cards may have been compromised at a merchant or service provider. Your debit card may have been affected."

While I understand stuff happens and I am grateful that BofA is monitoring card activity, this is too close to home for me.

I'm thinking credit is the way to go. As other point out, if fradulent charges post to a credit card, at least I'm not out my own money until they can credit it back. I'm going to stick to using the debit card at the ATM. For everything else, cash or credit it is.

It's really easy to use your credit cards as a debit card; just write down all of your purchases. That way when the bill comes, there are no surprises.

I deduct any credit card charges from my checking account register. When the bill comes, I double-check the statement and match up the individual charges in the register and PIF. Call me crazy, but this is what works for me.

Interesting way of tracking charges! I'm impressed.

That is definitely treating your CC as if it were a debit card!

Re: My debit card gets no more love

I'm REALLLLLLY bad about doing any kind of balancing.  When I was FIRST trying to get my spending under wraps, I was heavily monitoring and scanning every single recipt to account for every dollar spent.  using mint, etc.

Now that I've cut back on a ton of extra eating out expenses as well as layed off my woot and amazon purchases, I don't keep track nearly as often.  I'll log in to all of the accounts and just scan over to make sure no amounts jump out as out of the ordinary.

I would LOVE though to once again have a prime CC that would allow me to the ability to charge and pay off at the end of the each month, so that I could reap those bene's, as I've been using debit now for 4 years, thus carrying no CC debt anyway.

Re: My debit card gets no more love

I rarely use my debit card anymore, but recently I realized just how rarely. I used my debit card the other day because I wanted cash back, figured I'd save the trip to an ATM. When they asked for my pin, I wondered just how long it's been since I've used the card as debit. Looked online out of curiosity, it's been over 6 months.

Until they officially renounce financial reviews, I won't touch Amex with a thirty nine and a half foot pole.

Re: My debit card gets no more love

When I was in a financial mess like having 95% utilization all the time, I reverted back to me debited card..  This ensured that I only spend what I "have".  Soon after, credit cards were all paid off and I then got a charge card ---- I treated the charge card like a debit card (which should be the case) forcing me to pay in full every month.  Discipline has paid off. Now am slowly reverting back to my credit cards for rewards purposes and credit purposes too
