My fiance' is now a member of NFCU!!

After reading all the great benefits of being a member of NFCU, I had my fiance' (an Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran) join! They just had to do a little verification of his address, probably because we moved a lot this past year. I think this will be a great opportunity for him. I am excited for him, and I fully plan on riding his coat tails!!

Re: My fiance' is now a member of NFCU!!

He just got accepted today for his accounts. We ( I should say HE, lol) haven't applied for any credit products yet. I wasn't sure if we should establish a little history with them first or just apply for something right away....any advice?

Re: My fiance' is now a member of NFCU!!

That would depend on his credit, but I joined NFCU and applied for NAVChek, a credit card and an auto refinance all within 5 days of joining. All were approved. They want your business. They were also running a special on auto refinances here recently. Refinance an existing auto loan from another lender to NFCU and get $400. Check to see if it's still active.

Re: My fiance' is now a member of NFCU!!

We were actually just talking about refinancing his truck today. His credit is similar to mine minus any BK. That is the main reason why I wanted to wait a little bit just to improve our chances a little. We have both paid down most of our credit cards this past month, but the new balances haven't reported yet. I was thinking around December we'd look into some credit products. I want to make sure we are in a good position to get the maximum results.

I should add he had two collections that were put on in the summer taken off this week (PIF with the agreement of removal from all CRAs)..hopefully that will help his scores rise as well.

With that score range, I would say that it's not so much a question of them approving the refi as it is what rate they would offer him for it. It never hurts to ask. Word of advice though - ANYTHING credit related with NFCU seems to result in a hard pull, each and every time. Sometimes multiple pulls for the same application.

Re: My fiance' is now a member of NFCU!!

They are also known for throwing out high credit limits even with borderline scores as long as you have the income to support it. My brother has lower 600s credit and they approved him for a VISA Signature, $10k initial limit. I was frankly shocked.

Re: My fiance' is now a member of NFCU!!

Thanks for that advice. I will definitely wait then until our scores improve a bit. I'd rather take the HP when we are in a good place. I am just happy he got in...now to add me Smiley Wink
