How long have you had your Navy? If its been three months, I'd probably pull that trigger and try to get an unsecured card. Well, maybe four months.

I have had it since October 2012. When I opened it I figured I had no chance for an unsecured card so I solely apped for the secured. The point was to hope that they unsecure at the 12th statement like I had seen being done. Dangit, dangit, dangit!

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you all. I applied for a checking/savings account with NFCU on 1/31 and was told online that they would contact me, well they never did so today I called them. They are such a breeze to deal with and so far very helpful, luckily my account was approved but my initial deposit didn't go through. This $5 deposit is required so as of now my savings looks like I am $5 in the hole, I have scheduled a transfer from my Chase account to the NFCU account and am now waiting on that to deposit before I apply for the CC. I figured it wouldn't look to good if I was asking for credit if the account was at a negative balance. So I'll keep an eye on the NFCU balance and then apply once I'm in the clear, does anyone think that it would be wise to deposit a larger sum of money in the account before I apply? I just don't know if that would help them make the decision. Thoughts?

I am sure it wouldnt hurt to have more funds with them before investing, but I am also pretty sure it wouldnt matter either. Plenty of people open with $5 or $25 and come out with a $10k - $25k limit. So give it a shot and let us know! Good luck

You don't have to wait--my sister applied yesterday for a savings account and visa platnium at the sametime over the phone--she got approved for 15k--she is waiting on enrollment package in the mail so she can deposit her 5 dollars. I joined last july and got approved for navy visa platnium for 7k with a 629 equifax score and 4 co's which i didn't pay(4years old)!

So I went ahead and tried it since ya'll were confident I didn't need to wait...OMG!!! I'm about to have a heart attack!!! Instantly approved for $6k! OMG, before I messed everything up I couldn't even get a card with history up past $2500. I am in complete shock and am hoping this will help my credit score! My only CC I have now is a Cap1 Secured for $200 but wow! Look at me now!

Thanks! I got the nRewards Card and the scores were pulled by the local housing authority so I assume they would be considered like a "Lender Pull".
