I was recently declined for Navy credit because I'm too new (6 month oldest account). Recon said I could get a secured card now or wait 6-12 months and, assuming I'm in good standing with my other accounts, apply again.
I could put a good chunk of money in a savings account (anyone know their max secured card limit?) and hopefully graduate pretty quickly with pre-built strong limit. Or, I could garden for a year and go straight for the unsecured with an unknown limit. It would be nice to get the clock started now, but it would also be nice to just wait and keep cash freed up.
Thoughts?
