NFCU experience ***UPDATED***

So I decided yesterday to call NFCU to determine if I was eligible to become a member.  I didn't think I was (never had proof) but I talked to the rep and since my father was active military when he passed away the rep stated that I was eligible.  She went ahead with setting me up with a checking and savings account.  The rep the warn me that there may be a request for verification paperwork so I'm stressing over that a little.  I have whatever they need.  I just dont like that they can freeze my account after I was told that I'm eligible (there really should be a better checks and balance process for this).

The rep provided me with my account ID , set me up with online access, and ordered me a debit card and mini card.  I asked her about the credit cards which she explained and I decided to wait on applying.  After talking to her, I checked this site, decided to take a chance, and applied for the cashRewards Visa. I received the application under review message and called back to speak with a credit app specialist.  I was told that the app was under review and that I could log on and check this morning.

When I logged on, the first thing I see is a new account for a Signature Visa with a $5000 balance!  If this means I'm approved this is my second signature card.  The status still says app under review but geeze, I still dont know which to believe.  I'd really like to get over $5000 balance but I can be patient!

UPDATE!

I got the official approval for cashRewards this morning.  Signature Visa at $5K and  APR prime plus 11.99%.  With this and the AMEX  apps (green approved; BCE pending) I'm done!  Garden Garden Garden!

Also, Can someone please explain what Navcheck is?  Yes I searched the forums and only came up with threads on app results.  Also, do people typically apply for the nRewards right after being approved for cashRewards?

I really hope my account and cc are straight with NFCU and I dont get the okie doke.

Congrats on becoming a Navy member!Smiley Happy

Navchek is their LOC. Max CL is $15k, which is based on your credit-worthiness. The interest rate is the same for everyone. I believe it's 13.something %.

EQ FICO 750 | TU FICO 761 (Walmart) | EX FAKO 767 | Goal: 800+

Re: NFCU experience

Its a LOC. I just joined myself, but I have been super disappointed in their loan officers. I am going to use them for the rewards card I got but that's just ME and the branch I have joined. Its a good bank !

Re: NFCU experience

Remember, don't use over 500 of that limit unless you pay it off quick. ( To keep utilization down ). Good luck ! I have not looked at mine lately to see if it was 0 percent interest on purchases. Just applied and got it last Tuesday night

Re: NFCU experience

Navcheck- Mostly people get this because it shows as a cc account on report.

They usually will ask for last two pay stubs and if approved will send papers for you to sign.

Example they gave me $15,000.00  Instantly .

this will help keep my  Total Utilization lower ''

Always keeping an eyeSmiley Wink never to go over 9% Total Utilization for max scores.

Re: NFCU experience

i wouldn't worry about the $500 spend only... unless you are about to apply for something else, just pay each month.

it won't be 0%, they just ran that last month.... usually 1 maybe 2 a year they run a  0% offer for 12 months.
