NFCU

Quick question:  what type of documents do you have to submit to join if joining under a family member?

Has anyone ever been able to join by going up under a friend's membership or are they really strict about this?

Re: NFCU

I'm pretty sure all you need is that person's access number. Then you can sign up under them.

Re: NFCU

My Dad is retired military but not a member of NFCU. When I called to open an account,  the rep was very nice and told me that she was having trouble overriding the access number requirement. She told me to send in a paper application but I havent gotten around to it.

Re: NFCU

HI adamseve, Smiley Happy

I just went thru this with my younger brother.

I've been an NFCU Member since Nov 2007.
He joined Navy Fed using my Access Number as his sponsor.

I got on the phone with him and we called Navy Fed.
After the CSR took his name, SSN, address, etc
he was asked to submit the following documents:

-- Proof of Identity (black & white copy of driver's license, passport, etc)
-- Proof of Address ( phone bill, utility bill, etc)
-- Proof of Signature (just go to the NFCU website, print a hard copy of a
Membership application and sign/date it. No need to fill it out cuz you'll be
joining NFCU over the phone; they just need to see your signature)

**Optional: Proof of Income (recent paystubs, pay statement, etc)
If you plan on apping for cc's, loans, etc. it's a good idea to send this as well

-- Fax all of this information to NFCU Member Services @ 703.206.4600
-- To join over the phone, call NFCU at 888.842.6328
-- Submitting all of these documents upfront saves time in the long run
and speeds up the application process for any loans you might get.

You can always deposit $5 into your savings account at a later date.
Once you get an Access Number you can start applying for any NFCU
product you wish.

Hope this helps. Good Luck! Smiley Happy

Edit to Add: Regarding your 2nd question: Navy Fed membership is limited
to DOD personnel and family members only. So you can't use a friend's
access number to join Navy Fed.

Re: NFCU

I joined as my father was eligible. The second after he got an access number I applied for membership and was approved the next day without issue.
Here we go again...

Re: NFCU

If it's not a big hassle, just bring a bunch of forms of identification and go to a Navy Federal branch and they'll get everything set-up for you.
