Just got my new gold card, and with it a member since 2012 stamp. I was an AU on a amex account way back in 1998 and the account has since closed. I called 1800492334 CS number, and reached a rep(offshore) and explained that my member date was wrong, and I had a green card back in 1998, and could she look up my info to see and change. She was able to find the account from 1998, but since I was just an AU, and the account has been closed that I can not use that date, she was very dismissive about the whole idea. Should I keep calling? What should I say? Do I have any chance is getting a 98 member date? Thank, guys!
I don't think you will get the backdating since you were an AU on the account. I'm pretty sure you have to be the primary cardholder to get backdating. If the account were still open and active it might be a different story.

Is that true? I wanted to add my little sister as AU to my charge card and would love her to be able to use it as a backdate for when she is ready to pull trigger. I plan on keeping card open and in great standing.
I have heard of different outcomes...but I was also unsuccessful.
I was AU on an excellent account at the time I got my 1st AmEx in my own name. I tried to get my new one backdated to match the one I already carried....No go.
I am 99% sure that you have to be the primary cardholder to have future accounts backdated. Otherwise theoretically you could have an account backdated to before you were even born.
Does that account still have to be open and active though?
So in my case i was added in 1998, so my account could be back dated to 1998? Also the account has since been closed, by the account holder and was in good standing.
