I was watching a commercial for the Citi AAdvantage card this morning promoting their NEW sign-up program which provides 1 free baggage check-in (up to 4 people on your reservation), a $100 discount off a posted fare once per year, priority boarding, 25% in-flight food & drinks...and $30k bonus points after spend requirement. I already have the Select AmEx card ($85 AF). So I called to see if my account would have these benefits as well. The very nice rep said my card would be upgraded to the benefit program and my new AF would be $95 when it renewed. This is a pretty good deal as I fly from CA to FL a few times a year. The $100 discount pretty much makes up for the AF. My last trip on AA was a nightmare as everyone on the flight brought carry-on BAGS!!! The plane was delayed as the crew struggled to find places to put all of the luggage in the overhead bins. And this happened on every leg of my trip. This new program is a relief to someone that likes AA and would like not to have to stress over dealing with a crowded plane and flying luggage everywhere. I know United and Delta already do this but American's routing is better to where I'm going.
I'm glad they finally introduced these benefits, long overdue. Although, the $100 coupon is given only after you hit 30k spend in a year.
Which AAdvantage card(s) does this apply to?
Very good they gave that benefit since UA and Delta have had priority boarding and free bags on their cards now. Good to see Citi step up.
These were inevitable additions Citi had to make. These benefits just bring the card in line with United Mileage Explorer and Delta Amex. Which to get will just depend on which airport you live closest to.
I found the link. Honestly, I don't find it to be much better than their other AAdvantage cards. The $30K yearly requirement is crazy just to get a $100 credit. No thanks, I'll keep my other two AAdvantage cards with a shared $50 annual fee.
