New NFCU cash rewards card acting like a debit card at stores

I was just approved for this card and the woman told me that it can be used at checkout in stores to receive cash back. She mentioned something about it being connected to a red card. I haven't received my debit or credit card in the mail yet so I am assuming their debit card is red?

It happens to me as well and only with my NFCU card. So far it's happened at Walmart and Walgreens. I have no problem going through the steps to cancel and use as credit, but why would you have to with a credit card? Typically it's swipe, accept amount and go. None of my other cards do this. Very strange.
