Hey guys -- Quick question for the pros. I was scoping out the gift cards sold at Lowe's the other day. Looks like they have the gift cards I need (Southwest Airlines and Disney). I am fairly certian that I will earn the 5% cash back from Chase Freedom on these (without incurring cash advace fees). Does anyone have experience with Discover IT? Any input is appriciated. Also, is there any way to go through the shopping portals (UR / ShopDiscover) to get these?
Yes, you can buy gift cards with Discover and Freedom and get the bonus.
I haven't tried it through either of their shopping portals.
Thanks grinlikechelsea! Appriciate the quick reply. With how expensive flights / Disney vacations are I have needed to come up with some innovative ways to save. Maxing out these quarterly caps will help immensely.

I definitely understand that! I bought of gift cards for my parents on their anniversary during the Freedom's 5% on gas station purchases, and it was a nice way to give a gift and get a little something out of it as well.
Are we talking about using say my Discover IT card starting April 1st and buying gift cards from Home Depot? I can't believe this is allowed, though I'm sure its frowned upon?
Yeah -- Not at home depot though. The Discover catergory is alot broader than the Freedom's. They include ALL "home improvement stores." Are you upset about people doing this? Its all over the boards here as well as MS....
Chase clearly states when you shop through there Ur mall, cash equivalents (gift cards) don't qualify for the bonus.
Not upset at all, I mean you're still spending the money one way or another. I was just curious as to what the CCC thought about it or if their was anyway to detect it happening? I'm assuming the purchase just comes up as "Lowes" for XXX amount so maybe I answered my own question after all lol.

I don't see the option to buy those gift cards online at lowes.com, though I see you can buy lowes egift cards online.
If you can buy them online, you might want the upromise.com card, since if you shop through the upromise portal with a upromise.com card, you would get 5% + 5% cash back at lowes.com
Themanwhocan -- Thanks for the reply. I dont have a UPromise card I have heard some chatter about it around the boards, I'll have to take a closer look.
