Nice Surprise from BofA

Wanted to share this with everyone. Yesterday, I received a letter from BofA letting me know my secured credit card has been upgraded to unsecured and deposit of $1,000.00 will be refunded via cashiers check. Great news!. I've had this account for 3 1/2 years never bothered to call in just kept it active with normal usage, no late payments, 2 years had high util though. Last year haven't carried a balance. Anyhow I noticed my limit didn't change but I have any option to request one now in the form of a link when I sign into my account.

Should I initiate a request for a higher limit or wait a couple months?

Re: Nice Surprise from BofA

I would try now and, if declined, try again in a couple months.... especially if you are not applying for any other loans in the immediate future.

Re: Nice Surprise from BofA

When I applied for my BoA card, they did a hard pull on EX.   I am not sure how they treat CLI requests, as I haven't yet asked for one, but they might, especially considering that they never did a hard pull before extending you $1000 unsecured credit.

If you are trying to apply for a mortgage or something similar and need 0 inquiries on your EX report, then don't do it.   Otherwise, 1 HP is nothing.  It might not even effect your score at all (my EQ score dropped 1 point after multiple inquiries plus opening 11 new accounts in the last year).  But it does depend on your credit profile as to how much you are effected.

Re: Nice Surprise from BofA

I did not get a CLI at graduation, so I requested a CLI on my formerly secured BOA just 2-3 weeks after graduation. I graduated at 1.2K and went to 3K. I always paid in full, running 200-300 most months (a couple months over $ 500)

BOA did pull EXP on application, but TU when i added to  my security deposit, and TU again when i hit the CLI button online (some people report a soft pull if you don't call in and let BOA respond automatically, but many people still get a Hard Pull using that method)
