$10,000 from PenFed is a terrific start!!! And getting approved

for the 35k auto loan is just icing on the cake. I would just bask

in the glory of getting more than you wanted for a little while.

It doesn't happen very often these days and you should enjoy it

while it lasts.... 

It's also encouraging to the rest of us to know that PenFed is still

approving folks with Equifax scores in the high 600's. 700 or better

looked like the formula for success, but I'm thrilled that things worked

out for you.

It sure does, it's the best feeling ever!  When I tell you I was nervous about even applying, half way through the process I almost canceled ... kept telling myself, not yet, not yet then I put the request in for 10k and thought now they are really going to kick this app out!  And, I just KNEW that I was going to get the message that tells you ... were reviewing and will let you know in 3 to 4 days (or whatever it says).  OMG, you take all that doubt and get approved for something like this ... you just don't know!  I know some here really do know how if feels, But, OMG ... yesterday was the best day ever .... and today, is the first day of the rest of my new life!

Thanks for all the congrats and good words from everyone ... I am truely happy and I would never have taken this step without myfico and the people here, Thank you.

You don't need any military of federal government affiliation. This is by far the simplest method, although there are others:

Joining PenFed via National Military Families Association

It's a support group, not restricted to military families.

Be sure to read the many, many threads about what they want to see in terms of scores, reports, etc before jumping in.

I always said I was going to join and never looked into it before.

I used to work for SSFCU and we lost several members to PenFed because their auto rates were lower and CD rates are higher.

Im thinking I need to set up an emergency fund with them for the higher yeild.  Gonna look into that before I apply for any credit.

Been 3 weeks since I've been approved though and haven't heard anything. Called last week and was told I was approved. No card or anything yet. Still feels like I wasn't approved until that card is in my hands.

You even got a car in there too. You hit the jackpot.
I didn't get all that.

Mine took the slow route too. Two weeks after I was approved I got the PIN that said report the card lost if you haven't received it yet. Ugh. I did that and not too long after the card showed up, go figure. The date stamped on the envelope by the PO was just 4 days after I was approved so apparently the pony got lost or something. The second try only took a week-10 days.

10 days? I remember that...feels like sooooo long ago

I guess the $20,000 probably did kill my other options. Or they saw the price of my car on my report and balked. Not that it's THAT expensive...
