Tonight I applied for the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Plus card from Chase. It was a risky move considering Chase seems to be hot and cold with me.
Honestly, I had a gut feeling I'd get a 30 day message, find out I'm declined, and could try to recon. I've applied for 2 CC's from Chase before. I have an Amazon Visa with them for $1100 (originally approved for $800 on recon back in October, but they bumped up my limit a week or so ago). Then in December I tried for the Chase Freedom and was denied for too many new accounts/inquiries (had 4 on EX at the time). I couldn't even get approved on recon. Thankfully AMEX approved me for BCE a month later and I got some backdating, but it brought my EX inqs to 6.
Fast forward to tonight, I decided to just go for it. My SO and I are going out of state for a wedding in June and we'll also be visiting his family for Christmas, and Southwest/Air Tran flies to both locations we'd be going to, so the points would be a huge help. Originally I wanted to apply for the Priority Club Visa card as my 2013 goal card, but after seeing so many hotel loyalty programs devalue their points these last couple of months, I officially decided against it.
So I apped for the RR card, and I got a 10 day message. No big surprise there.
Then I called the app status line to see if it had processed a decline. I figured, tomorrow's Friday, so I can call to recon before the weekend arrives.
Instead, I heard the recording tell me I was APPROVED for $6500 (my highest limit yet!!) anddddd they gave me the best APR of 15.24% (my lowest APR yet!!).
I am soooo thrilled! Despite the annual fee, this will be a keeper card for me. In fact, I will probably upgrade it to the Premier in a year since I'll need the option for no foreign transaction fees by that point.
On the downside, being approved for best terms means I won't get a free Experian score :-P
But...this means they'll issue me a Visa Signature card, yes? ![]()

Thanks guys! I'm happy to have been approved for my first Visa Siggy, and it's my first airline card too! I love AMEX but I don't love Delta at all, so I feel lucky that I got one for an airline I actually enjoy flying.

I apped chase over and over....originally had a chase BP with $5500 limit....one day realized it got reduced to $1500 for no reason....probably non use....well after so many apps, especially for a sapphire...finally got approved...got denied for sapphire like 6-7 times....this time 21k approval.....I live in Memphis, so since Southwest was coming to town, about a week later app'ed for the Southwest card thru Chase and got 18k.....who knows if those limits will keep but they are awesome cards!
