Re: Offer to Upgrade Amex card...

If your Amex is just a gold card and not a PRG then you have a couple of options.  The Plat is terrific for travelers as explained in the link, the PRG is a better MR accumulator with a smaller annual fee.

Amex Gold =Amex ED 20k = Amex BCP 14k = Amex SPG Lux 2k = Arrival 2k = Ring 14k = BOA 321 30k = BOA BBR 10k = CSR 25k = Freedom 10k = Citi Simplicity 9k = Citi DC 5k = Citi DP 3k = DCVR IT 16k = DCVR IT(2) 10k = CAP1 QS 15k = NFCU CR24k/AE25k/CLOC 15k = BBVA 14k = Wells Plat. 5k = (2) US Bank Cash+ 13k, 18k = PenFed 17k

Re: Offer to Upgrade Amex card...

That is a nice sized fee. I can certainly understand wanting to look in to how much worth it would be.

Re: Offer to Upgrade Amex card...

Be aware Amex may occasionally target you with an offer for extra MRs as part of the upgrade. You might wish to wait a while in case you get such an offer.

Personal spend: Amex Gold, Amex Schwab Plat., BofA PR+CCR(x2), Costco
Business use: Amex Bus. Plat., BBP, Lowes Amex AU, CFU AU
Perks: Delta Plat., United Explorer, IHG49, Hyatt, "Old SPG"
Mostly SD: Freedom Flex, Freedom, Arrival
Upgrade/Downgrade games: ED, BCE
SUB chasing: AA Platinum Select

Re: Offer to Upgrade Amex card...

I have been given the option to upgrade as well for the typical 40k bonus offer (have the PRG). Recently there was an open non targeted offer for 100k that I jumped on.

Amex plat is a great card but you should Google the benefits of it. There are usually a list of 10 benefits mostly travel oriented and elite statuses that bloggers point out. Good luck.

Re: Offer to Upgrade Amex card...

Upgrading is typically not the best point-maximizing option, especially with Amex, since you can only receive the bonus 1x per card.

Utilizing MR points effectively, taking advantage of airline credit loopholes, hotel status and lounge perks is something you'd want to get familiar with before making your decision as the $450 annual fee is not waived.
