Old Navy SCT pre-approval

Re: Old Navy SCT pre-approval

This is not something new.  I bought 5 to 8 clearance t-shirts from Old Navy many times while hoping to eventually get that pre-approval screen.  Many say you can get a store card and then after a year they upgrade you to the Visa version.  I was buying clothes for my nephew because I certainly do not wear ON clothes.  I finally decided I had enough CCs anyway and stopped using the account.  I got the pre-approval screen from EBates and took that Visa version.

Re: Old Navy SCT pre-approval

Ok, when I click "get started" it takes me to a screen with standard verbiage about needing to accept the terms & conditions, I need to income qualify and the normal "you can opt out of pre-screened offers".

The next screen is the T&C and the rate with an Agree button. I'm afraid to click that and go further. I don't want the card, though it hasn't asked my my income, or my SSN/ DOB yet.

Re: Old Navy SCT pre-approval

Well thats how you will know if its a SP or a HP or not, if it only asks for the LAST 4 and approves you, you fit into a profile..

Is this not the standard any more ? I am about to hop on ON right now and try the SCT.. if it only asks for last 4.. cant be a hard pull ?

Re: Old Navy SCT pre-approval

I've tried so many times and finally got the popup.  I already have 3 Synchrony cards and they're acting a little sketchy lately.  I had an inquiry fall off my record yesterday and by February 2017 I will only have 1 inquiry total across all bureaus.  I think I'll sit this one out.

I agree AverageJoesCredit, I didn't think if it that way , I was just thinking it would be nice to have a preapproved offer every now and then from then while online .

I don't know about Synchrony, but with Comenity there are plenty of tales on here where people would only enter the last four digits of their SS# and they still ended up with a HP.

I would strongly suggest for anybody to expect a HP, and be pleasantly surprised if there's not one.  Smiley Wink

Re: Old Navy SCT pre-approval

I had the same thing happened to me today! I have shopped at Old Navy online before and didn't get a preapproval but I have had a recent jump in my credit score (from a collection coming off l, 612 to 663) so I don't know if that had something to do with it. But I was so shocked to see the preapproval! I accepted it. I have quite a few inquiries (15), but only one synchrony card (Walmart ). I always keep it well below 30%, did that help me to get a preapproval? only other synchrony cards I would be interested in are JCPenney and Amazon. I wonder if the same thing would happen? Btw they asked for my whole Social Security number but I have not gottten an alert that my credit was pulled yet. I think it was a soft pull. I usually get an alert instantly. Anyway I just wanted to share!

AFAIK, JCP doesn't do SCT.   However, your scores would get you in.  Their card kicked off my rebuild, as I got a mailer from them when I was low 600s.   They started off as a $250 CL and are now at $15K.

There were rumors of an Amazon SCT trick long ago, but I think it was just rumor.   With two separate cards from two separate companies, I don't think SCT would be likely for either one.   However, you could just outright apply.   When my score was ~625, I was about to get a $700 SL when I apped for their store card.
