Opening same cards multiple times

Ive seen a few people with multiple chase freedom cards. Do banks usually allow one to have multiple same cards or does it vary by bank and credit card?

Re: Opening same cards multiple times

you can have 2 of the same product, but if the card offers sign up bonus, most likely they will not give the bonus a second time...

It varies by bank and by card.  With some, you can open the same card multiple times and get the bonus multiple times.  Sometimes you have to close down the first one, sometimes not.  Sometimes you can repeatedly get the same bonus, sometimes you have to wait.  And not only does it vary by bank, it's changing all the time.  Flyertalk is where to go for this kind of info.
