I'm thinking of getting barclay arrival for the 40k miles bonus and 2.2x cashback and want to not pay the annual fee and change the type of card to a no-af card with them. I just called them and they said it's not possible. I wanted to see if anyone had any experience with changing credit card at barclay?
My other option to the same thing is Cap1 venture card. First I have to wait for a better promotion and then see if they do PC

I don't think this is a question to call and ask Barclay - they will definitely tell you no - what's in it for them to do this? Anecdotally people on various boards have been reporting that Barclays will not do this either. Barclays is conservative, and they do not like people they consider to be "churners" which is why they will tell you they will not do a PC. I think you probably could PC to the no AF card, but should open the card and keep it open until just before next years AF hits before trying to do the PC. Don't try to do it right after you get the bonus, too many red flags for them.
Even if they won't do a PC, if you have another card from Barclay they will re-allocate or move the Credit Line over to another card. I have moved a credit line to another card, and closed the original card to avoid paying the AF.
They do it as a save offer and yes it is idea to wait until 11 month or so prior to requesting the downgrade.
That's what I wanted to do. Wait for 11 months or even 23 months. I like the 2x of the arrival card.
mxp114, is it your guess or you heard they offer the downgrade to save the card?
I have spoken with 3 different Barclaycard CSRs and they all said YES.
@DigitalArk. Do you already have a card with them? I talked with 2 CSRs today and told them I'm thinking of applying for the arrival and asked them about the PC and they said it's not possible.
I've talked to multiple CSRs as well. I was told that it would be possible to apply for the no-AF card and then close the AF card, which is kind of like a PC, except that its a new account with no history.
It may be something that you can ask to speak to a retention specialist and explain your case and possibly they will grant an exception, but it is not a normal easy PC like with a US-owned banking institution.
If you think that $200 is worth some trouble/risk, then you should probably try it. If they don't let you PC, you can definatly just close the card if you want.
@mohammadmoghimi
Yes, I have (used to have) the arrival with AF (I have successfully downgraded it to the no AF version).
@DaveSignal: What you are saying matches what they told me but @DigitalArk says they do the PC.
@DigitalArk: Did they mention closing/opening for the PC?
