I financed a motorcycle on a Kawasaki-branded credit card (issued by Capital One). It shows up on my reports as a revolving charge account, not an installment loan - which is why I posted this in the credit card forum.
It has a credit limit of $9000, and my high balance was $5K. I made all scheduled payments on time and just paid it off with a large final payment. The account now shows a zero balance, but it hasn't hit my credit reports yet.
This card can only be used to purchase at a Kawasaki dealer. I have no intention to use it again and this card will not pose any temptation for me.
What should I do next? The two options that occur to me are:
1. Close the card immediately after it shows as a zero balance on my credit reports
Downside: I'll lose the $9K of available credit for scoring purposes, but my overall utilization will still be under 10%.
2. Keep the card open for a while with a zero balance on it, and close it after a few months (or never close it/wait for them to close it)
Potential issue: I've heard that Cap One has a tendency to close down the credit limit after you've paid off the balance and have no activity for a while. If they shrink it to $500 or some low amount like that, could it hurt my scores?
Any input/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Just keep it open... If you're not using it, It wouldn't hurt your credit at all even if they shrunk it to a $10 limit. Why? Because you wouldn't have a balance on it... It'd hurt it if you owed $6 and they dropped it to $10 because you'd have 60% Utilization on it... You see what I'm saying?
Just leave it open and let them close it 2 years from now on its own.. Then it'll take another 10 years to drop from your report lol.

Usually lenders will chase the balance by lowering limits if a balance is too high for too long. So cap1 might lower it depending how long you had a high balance. However in my opinion if your not going to use or need it i suggest closing it after it reports.
For a regular credit card -- I highly doubt this will happen with this card as it's meant for this purpose....
Got you a KXF450 didnt you!
In September I'm getting me the 30th Anniversary edition ZX10r! Cant wait! Super sleek looking
agreed its a card with a purpose. No reason to reduce the limt.
I have to agree that 2015 ZX10r is one sweet bike. Whats that going to set you back, about 17k?
MSRP is 13,599... so yeah just about. Totally worth it if you ask me. Hope I get approved for the financing

Oh man... I might get one when I'm debt free. I've always wanted a Ninja.
