After having been maxed out or OTL on cards for years, last summer I started making a strong and concerted effort to pay off everything in full. As of this morning, it's done -- I have finished paying off ALL of the outstanding debt on my old, cancelled credit cards! I just submitted my final payment online, making me 100% free of consumer debt! I am THRILLED!!!!!!! 
As for my active CCs, they remain PIF every month -- no new debt, no cc interest!
