Paying taxes with a c/c

Would paying off IRS taxes be considered a cash advance?

Out of my two 0% card options, which card would most welcome this charge to be carried over for a few months until paid off - Sallie Mae or Freedom?

FICO: EQ 814 | TU 847 | EX ? (Started in the low 500's... you can do it!)

Amex BCE $25000, Amex AP $20000, SFFCU Visa $15000 + LOC $5000, USAA Amex $6000, USAA MC $7000, Cap1 $9500, Freedom $12000, Slate $500, Barclays "RIP" SM $11500, USBank Cash+ $12500, Citi Diamond $11200, Citi Double Cash $12000, Care Credit $13500k.

Re: Paying taxes with a c/c

If you pay through one of the IRS-approved services, that has a fee, I doubt it would be considered a cash advance.

You might put the charge on the card with the highest CL.

Re: Paying taxes with a c/c

I pay the IRS every month using credit cards and it's never been a cash advance. The IRS payment services charge a fee, so take that into consideration as well. I use a card with cash back so the fee is minimized.

Re: Paying taxes with a c/c

Typically, the fees associated with paying your tax bill with a credit card are high enough that it negates any rewards earned by using the card. It's not an accident.

If someone came out on top, they are either bad at math or extremely lucky.

Here's the IRS site.   Looking at the fees, you could possibly be better off making a payment arrangment with the IRS, depending on how long you had to pay.

Big difference between county property taxes and IRS income tax. The linked thread is a property tax.

Re: Paying taxes with a c/c

IRS payments are not considered to be a cash advance in my experience with Amex at least.

I don't fully know if it would count for a 0% promotion though.

FWIW the IRS payment options charge 1.56% or thereabouts a few months ago when I last used the service. Enjoy the arbitrage play while it lasts with 2% or better cards available.

Re: Paying taxes with a c/c

I know this is old thread but i need to pay my 2014 taxes on a Credit card as i just got caught up on several years of taxes. the first 3 years are under control with installment agreement. just 2014 i need to pay in full. making sure that nothing hurts my hard earned credit report which is down to 1 old baddie. a  cable collection that is 4plus years old. paid in full. would like to see a clean report with out any negatives at least once in my lifeSmiley Indifferent any way. i  need to know how to do it on mutlitple cards. if not. since amex is my highest limit. will they frown if i charge 3500 on a single purchase for taxes and pay it off slowly say within a year or so. thanks my fico. i know you guys are the best.
