When PenFed Platinum got nerfed, I opened Cash Rewards and a money market savings account to get 5% on gas.

A friend of mine wants to get the Cash Rewards card.

Will it still offer 5% to new members if they open a MMS account with it?

I seem to remember reading that this offer will expire in October.

[5%] Gas, Grocery, Amazon, Airline tickets, Drug Stores, Dept. Stores, Target, MyHabit
[3%] Restaurants
[2%] Everything Else

According to their current page, yes. There have been lots of iterations. What seems to be the case now is that it looks like two products, standard and plus.

The plus version offers 5% with no AF with a qualifying product, so, at least today, that is available!

The October end was for an earlier iteration, where the 5% ended at the end of Oct for all, and that changed as well.

When I talked to them the other day, I was told it doesn't matter when the account was opened. In order to get the "plus" version and avoid $25 AF, you have to enroll in one of the eligible services (such as MMS which is probably the cheapest/easiest way) after October 26, 2013.
