Played hardball with Orchard and won!

I called the backdoor # and told them that after I accepted their card with a $500CL/$39AF last month, I was approved for two cards from other creditors with higher CLs and NO annual fees, and that I wanted to close the account and have the $39AF refunded.

I was offered a $600 CLI if I kept the card, so I took it.

I think paying that annual fee right away gave me the leverage in this situation.

So, did you have to pay the $39 AF for a $100 increase?

LOL until they do a CLD to $300 next month.

Your goal now would be to get a no fee card before you have to pay the next anual fee.

The increase was $600, not $100.

I don't believe HSBC will give me a no fee card anytime soon b/c I have a bankruptcy reporting. I still plan on closing the account before the AF comes up next year.

Sounds like a good 11-month-long card! Congrats.
