Hey guys I have a question about credit utilization. My current utilization according to myfico is 112%. But the math is not adding up accurately. My open and closed revolving balance is $3,948. My total open revolving available credit is $1,230. Why is my utilization not higher? Why isn't the calculation more precise? Does the system max out at 112%? If not, can I rely on the system's calculation to be 100% even when I'm below 30% utilization? Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.
Can you list each revolving account (call them A, B, C if you like), with each one's credit limit and reported balance? Plus which ones are open and which are closed.
If my hypothesis is correct, lassjrmatt has $3,525 of total open credit. He is utilizing $2,295 of said credit, leaving him with $1,230 available and an actual utility of about 65%. However, it would appear that the balance of the closed accounts is $1,653 and whatever these accounts initial credit limits were at is not being reported into his score. So if you add $1,653 (closed debt) and $2,295 (open debt) you get $3,948 as his total debt. Divide that by the current open lines of credit of $3,525 and you get a utilization of 112%.
