Ok, so on the cc company's that have a prequalify link, how do they link yuou to a card?  I mean you don't really put much information in nor put your full social in to let them know what you would be able to qualify for.

Your credit report can be looked up by address.  Most of these check if you are in their system, however, they rarely pull your CRs.

HSBC definitely places a soft inquiry on your credit report.
