Re: Question for AMEX owners with less than 650 FICO score

I got approved for the Blue Cash Everyday with a 636 EQ, and it seems like the HP hasn't been reported yet even though I got the card a few weeks ago. However, I did get a low SL ($500).

Last baddie was in late 2014 for collections but was paid off back in September. Other than that, on-time payments for the past two years on AU card, about 22% utililization once FICO updates with my FU card that I just got last week, one inquiry and my income is about 26K.

I would focus on bringing your UTL % down to below 10% before you apply for an Amex revolver. You would probably get a score bump when you get your UTL down below 10%.

American Express: Platinum Charge, Optima, Business Gold, Delta Business Reserve, Business Cash, Business Plus
Barclays: Arrival+ WEMC
Capital One: Savor WEMC, Venture X Visa Infinite
Chase: Freedom U Visa Signature, CSR Visa Infinite
Citibank: AAdvantage Platinum WEMC
Elan/US Bank: Fidelity Visa Signature
Credit Union: Cash Back Visa Signature
FICO 08: Score decrease between 26-41 points after auto payoff (11.01.21) FICO as of 5.23, EX: 812 / EQ: 825 / TU: 815

I would personally not app for the card with scores below 650, but in saying that I have the ED and the BCP (the AF one) and enjoy them both. They both have good benefits, it really depends if you want MR benefits or cash back benefits.

I thin there is more to the approval process than a FICO score. They probably focus on utilization, payment pattern, credit established from the time of your last baddie, etc.

Oh I definitely agree, but with scores that low I was assuming there were some badies and it just went without saying Smiley Happy Thanks for clarifying what I was trying to say though!

Generally if I do not get an instant prequalify I will not proceed to actually applying. Not if I qualify for one or not, but rather not take the inquiry hit.
