I think he should just wait it out and see what happens. If he set up a direct deposit to pay his security deposit, then he should keep a close eye on his bank account, if they draw out the funds, then he's golden. Otherwise may wait to see what the letter states and call for a recon if denied.
But he may also be able to call in a week or so and find out something. That's just my advice, doesn't mean that's the best approach. You just never know with BOA. But I would think if he was definitely denied, then they would of said so immediately upon receiving his app etc. As they say, "No news is good news"
