First off I am pretty new to the forum but I must say all this advice and discussion is awesome! Now to my question regarding my credit cards and situation. Back in my wild and crazy college days I had 2 Capital One Credit Cards which I received in 2007. The CL on 1 card was 2k, and the other card was 750.00. In December of 2009 I consolidated all of my credit cards after being in terrible debt and having a lot of late payments and bad history. I went through Delray Credit Counseling and consolidated both credit cards and also a JC Penny card, Circuit City Card, and Fred Myer Jewelry Card. As of this month, after paying 170.00 dollars every month since December of 2009, with no late payments or issues, I only owe 75 dollars on the last of the Delray Credit Accounts. The last of the things being paid off by Delray is one last payment on my Capital One card and when that is paid off I am free of all of that crap that those cards put me through, and my poor decisions. The second part of the equation is I have a charge-off that is being reported on my credit report for a Best Buy card from several years ago and i'm guessing Capital 1 bought Best Buy's cards or something because it is saying CAP1/BSTBY on the account that is listed as a charge off. My credit this time last year was a 519, and it is currently a 640 average with the 3 bureaus. My payment history has been very good the past year/year and half. I recently got a Barclay's NFL Visa Card in December of 2013, and also got a Visa Platinum from Credit One Bank (which i hate). I opened both of these cards to just help get my score up and use gas, food, etc.....both limits are 500 and both have about a 110 balance and have been paid on and up to date to this point since getting them (and it will stay that way.) I would still like to get once more card to boast my credit and help with utilization and open accounts. with all that being said I have several questions: 1st - Since I did pay off the two capital one credit cards through Delray, would they possibly approve me for a card? or will the best buy charge off (that I guess they possibly own now) stop me from being approved by them? If capital one wont approve me, does anyone have any decent cards that they think would be a good idea to get with my situation and credit scores? Any suggestion would be great and thanks in advance.

Cap One seems pretty forgiving. You should try their pre-approval screening on their site to see if get any offers.
AFAIK, Best Buy has switched lenders for their CC a few times. At one point, they were Cap One, but Citbank took over in September of last year.
As for the two active cards, you should consider keeping a lower balance. Ideally, over UTIL should be <10%. Credit One also has no grace period, so it may be better to use that one minimally and PIF immediately.
I believe they would approve you but try the prequalify site to see. Keep in mind they do three HPs. You may be coose to being approved for a Walmart card they give monthly free credit scores. Barclays seem hit or miss on their scoring. Wait for more input before applying. Good luck on your journey!
Thanks for the advice. The Best Buy issues had me confused because like I said on my credit report, it is reported as CAP1/BSTBY. I will try the the pre-approval for cap 1 since its a safe option right now. I hate to add any inquiries on my credit report applying for cards. thanks again
I thought about applying for a Wal-Mart card, however i wasn't sure what kind of credit score requirements they had. I hate to add the inquiry on my credit report just to get denied haha. thanks for the advice though. If you happen to know the general qualifications for the wal-mart card could you let me know? Also should if i was going to apply for the wl-mart card, should I apply for the actual credit card or just the "Wal-Mart" card that can only be used there? thanks for the help

Are those fako or fico scores you have? If they are fico I would say yes go for the Walmart card. Also check our who gave me credit . Com and search Walmart you can see who has been approved. Def try Barclay card pre qualifier though let me know
I'd avoid Barclay if you're looking to apply for any other cards with in a year. They tend to be .. Finicky
Ok, Capital one didnt pre-qualify me for anything when I applied, so I guess they don quite forgive me yet...haha. I have one Barclays CC and its the NFL card, so I shouldnt apply for another one with them? And the credit score's I reported are FAKO scores. Any idea on how to get ALL 3 FICO scores so I have an actual depiction of my credit?

If u have a barclaycard already u should be able to get a free fico score or at least I do with my rewards card with them. They give you tu 08 which is much better than the tu 98 that you can buy on here cause almost no lender uses 98 anymore. I would suggest looking into score watch from myfico because that is the same score cap one uses for their scores. For ex you can buy it here with a report but it's 20 bucks.
