"excellent credit" is kinda bogus. 660+ will get you those cards without much issue
Cap One defines excellent credit as follows, note no reference to scores:
I have never declared bankruptcy or defaulted on a loan. I have not been more than 60 days late on any credit card, medical bill, or loan in the last year.
AND
I have had a loan or credit card for 3 years or more with a credit limit above $5,000
So looks like a pretty low threshold for "excellent"! You can be 30 days late this year, and have many longer lates providing they are more than a year old.
I have a BK that was discharged in Feb of 2010.
