Reestablishing Amex after CO?

Hello,

I have a CO from Amex after being in good standing with them for seven years. It has been paid in full (and actually shows a $374 credit on it??). I was reading about the Optima card, but one of their representatives advised they stopped that program April 2013. Is anyone aware of any programs Amex is offering to reestablish membership with them? I loved my Amex account and wish I didn't go through what I did. Any advice? Thanks.

are you refering to the oasis program? they still have that, I think.

Anyhow, if your scores are good enough, you can always apply for a regular amex product. since you did pay them back in full, you shouldn't be blacklisted.

Re: Reestablishing Amex after CO?

Doesn't seem so, but I noticed there was at least one instance of someone w/ an old AMEX paid CO getting a BCE. Again, I think the CO was fairly old (5+ years) and paid.

Re: Reestablishing Amex after CO?

Are the Oasis and Optima cards the same? I only recently learned about these and thought they were the same thing. I have a collection i just PFD'd today so I'm going to wait for that to come off before applying for anything new, and for the public record from Amex to come off which should be soon. My score is 638 and that collection is pretty recent so when it falls off, there should be a pretty decent jump.

Re: Reestablishing Amex after CO?

My situation was a little different but it may give hope. I was AA'd and my Amex Blue Sky was closed in 2010. I believe I had a $10K limit and had $7K on the card. After they closed my account they gave me a 'hardship' something or another where they did not charge me interest for 6 months and then the next 6 months was around 9%. I was worried they would not accept me back after they lost out on that interest but they just approved me the other day for their SPG.

So, if they lost out on some interest and still let me back then hopefully they let you back since you paid them in full. Good Luck!

Re: Reestablishing Amex after CO?

Yes! I did it last year (July). However I was told 10 times that I didnt qualify for it, and in some cases that it no longer existed. Just depended on the day and the rep I got. I spoke with both regular customer service and their internal collections csr's.

I had a 6 year old charged off account. I contacted EO and plead my case. It was outside SOL. Long story short when someone at EO responded to me I plead my case. They agreed once I paid the $697, they would open me an Optima Oasis card which they did... And it backdated to 1999. So dont let the frontline csrs deter you, get ahold of EO. I used Google to get the phone number

Re: Reestablishing Amex after CO?

Did you contact them via mail or phone? Approximately how long did it take? That's great news though!

Re: Reestablishing Amex after CO?

I called using the amex EO backdoor numbers found on this site:

Per the backdoor thread: AmEx: 800-230-1284 (Account Services - handles accounts with issues)
AmEx Executive Office: 800-297-6197

I also fell on my sword and reiterated how important it was to me to make things right with them and re-establish a relationship, etc. and how it was a win-win for both of us! Good luck!!!
