Most likely yes. I asked them on their chat and the CSR said it is a SP & internal system review and "if warranted" then a HP. She was required to get my permission for the HP so I came to the conclusion that, in all likelihood, it is a HP.

I requested the CLI online. I'm sure that counts as my "permission" for the HP 😕
As Ramocita stated, it will depend as I have also never gotten a HP for a CLI. They will tell you if it going to be a hardpull. You best best is to chat with someone online from the credit department and see if it is so - HP in your case...
This is my first post here. On Thursday I iniitiated a CLI with Macy's online. But I asked if it was going to be a hard or soft pull to avoid dinging my credit. A CLI was approved, and the responder stated that it was not a hard inquiry, but a soft pull. Request an increase and query them in the message section.
My Macy's card had a credit line of $100 opened Jan 2015.
Last Night I called for a CLI. Nice lady asked me how much I was looking for, I stated 1,500 would be PERFECT as I am getting ready to start some of my Holiday shopping this weekend.
She asked me if I was looking for 1,400 + the existing 100, or 1500 + 100. I stated 1,400 + 100 would be PERFECT. She asked to verify my income as well as rent/own, then very quickly came back with an APPROVAL for 1.5k.
Credit Karma shows as SP!!!!
