I needed to find out for a friend if you need a BOA checking when applying

for a BOA secured card online?

Also he has no credit at all. Is approval guranteed?

You do not need a boa bank account to get the secured card.  I'm not sure about the other question you had.  He should be able to get it though I would think.

If your friend starts from a clean slate he/she should be approved for whatever credit line he/she wants. Remember to specifically request the BankAmericard Cash Rewards secured card to benefit from the cash back.
